Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan produced a stunning counter-attack by smashing a blistering half-century during the 2nd T20I between India and New Zealand at Raipur, completely shifting the momentum of a steep run chase in India’s favour.

The match was played on Tuesday evening at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur, as part of the New Zealand tour of India, 2026. Chasing a daunting target of 209 runs, India lost both openers inside the first two overs, but Kishan’s fearless batting lit up the stadium and dragged India back into the contest inside the powerplay.

Ishan Kishan’s Explosive Knock in Raipur

Walking in after the early dismissal of Abhishek Sharma, Kishan took control straight away. He brought up his fifty with an attacking stroke off Matt Henry, reaching the milestone in just 21 deliveries — one of the fastest T20I fifties by an Indian batter against New Zealand.

    • Runs: 76
    • Balls: 32
    • Fours: 11
    • Sixes: 4
    • Strike Rate: 237.50

Kishan attacked both pace and spin with authority, punishing loose deliveries from Zakary Foulkes and Mitchell Santner, while also handling Ish Sodhi confidently. His clean hitting during the powerplay put New Zealand’s bowling unit under sustained pressure.

This knock placed Kishan at the very top of the list for the fastest fifty by an Indian batter against New Zealand in T20 Internationals.

    Big Statement After Long Gap

This was Kishan’s second international appearance after nearly two years, and the innings arrived at a crucial phase when competition for places in India’s T20 setup is fierce. His ability to absorb pressure after early wickets while maintaining an ultra-aggressive scoring rate stood out as one of the defining moments of the match.

With dew settling in and the ball skidding nicely onto the bat, Kishan made full use of the conditions and showed intent from the very first delivery — exactly what India required in a high-pressure chase.

    • India were 6/2 inside two overs
    • Kishan added a match-defining 122-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav
    • India scored 75 runs in the powerplay despite losing two early wickets
    • The knock strongly boosted Kishan’s credentials as a top-order option in T20 Internationals

As the series moves forward, this explosive innings at Raipur could well prove to be a turning point in Ishan Kishan’s T20I career — a reminder of the game-changing impact he brings on big nights.
